We Give You Options
We strive to help you in the ways that you need. For example, you can hire one of our lawyers to take full carriage of your file, taking responsibility for the handling of your case and every aspect of it. Or, you can choose to hire one of our lawyers to help you with just one slice (or discrete part) of your case, while you carry the ultimate responsibility for managing your own file. Unbundled services are often offered on a block-fee basis, and can include:
- drafting a Separation Agreement,
- preparing support calculations,
- assisting you to complete a Financial Statement,
- appearing for you for a court Conference (without becoming counsel of record),
- helping you prepare an offer to settle or proposal,
- and the list goes on...
Legal Coaching
Another option that works for some of our clients is to hire a lawyer for "coaching" services. This arrangement is usually billed on an hourly basis, rather than a block-fee basis, but you can choose to use your lawyer as much or as little as you require. In a coaching model, we would advise you behind the scenes as you move forward with your matter. Sometimes, these clients are relying on us as advice lawyers as they work through the issues in mediation, other times, clients want support with strategy and procedural advice as they represent themselves in court.
These innovative arrangements can take many forms. In short, we offer you choices. At your initial consult, you and the lawyer will discuss how to best structure the lawyer-client relationship and our contract for services to best meet your needs.
It is important to note that limited scope services are not suitable in every situation. You will need to discuss your options with the lawyer at your initial consult. You can learn more about limited scope representation through the Family Law Limited Scope Services Project at: www.familylawlss.ca
